Snow chaos
I’ve never expected to have a white Christmas in Scotland to be honest. So I was quite surprised when it started snowing around the 20th of December. And it hasn’t melted yet! But Scotland really cannot handle the snow. It’s a mess…trains are delayed, flights get cancelled, pavements are covered in ice! Actually it’s pretty dangerous. Though I might just expect too much because I’m used to winter road clearance and such things…
My name is Jenny, I’m 19 years old and am from Germany. I’ve been here for 4 months now and am going to stay till the end of May. I like being a volunteer at SCH indeed. Work is varied and I get to know many interesting people. I’m going to study theology so working here is a valuable experience for me. And I shouldn’t forget to say that we have so much fun. :-)
Shakila, Agnesa (two other volunteers) and me spent Christmas with the former wardens Bruce and Elaine at their house near Perth. I really enjoyed it. It was sort of the perfect white Christmas: we took long walks, had a snowball fight, built a huge snowman and then warmed us up at the fireplace. And of course we ate a lot of food.
A big thank you to Elaine and Bruce!!
Now we’ve come back to work. Last week we painted the old volunteer’s flat because the new Assistant Director Gen is moving in soon. She has chosen a bright yellow for her bedroom. I love this colour and want to use it for our bathroom as well.
The house is quiet at the moment so we have time to do some work on the website and on facebook. I think we need to upload some new pictures, though I haven’t figured out how to do it!
On 5th January we had a Taize worship at SCH. Although not many people came probably due to the weather it was really nice and I hope we can have more Taize worships throughout the year. I’m even thinking about going to Taize for 1or 2 weeks after I’ve finished volunteering.
See you
Jenny
