Ancient Celtic Gifts for Modern Time

Time:
9 April 2010 - 5:00pm - 11 April 2010 - 2:00pm

Leader:  John Bell of the Iona Community

The term CELTIC SPIRITUALITY means different things to different people, and exactly what it entails is a matter of contention.
From fragmentary evidence we have of both monastic and lay practice, there were distinctions in spiritual understanding which are worth claiming in our day.

Only late in time have we become aware of the heritage of spirituality native to Britain, particularly that influenced by the Celtic missions; when people lived and believed without the benefit of heated churches, printed Bibles or ecclesiastical administration.

But maybe in more ‘primitive’ expressions of faith, there are useful tools for our life, belief and witness today.

This retreat will look at perspectives on the Bible, Prayer, Ecology and Church Life; with songs, poems, conversations and some practical exercises thrown in for good measure.Through reflection on some of the basic tenets of Celtic Christianity and song inspired by this tradition, we will identify ancient gifts for modern times.

Cost: single en-suite £125; single standard £100.  Twin rooms available on request.

We begin with an evening meal at 6 pm on Friday 9th April, and finish with lunch on Sunday 11th April.
