Scottish Friends of Ecumenism

Image: Cross design. Friends are those who wish to support the work of Scottish Churches House, Action of Churches Together in Scotland (ACTS) and the life of the whole church, locally and globally. They wish to be kept in touch with matters of ecumenical interest.

Scottish Friends of Ecumenism is an association of individuals and groups whose purposes are:

  • to express their support for Scottish Churches House, and their commitment to its work
  • to seek ways of enabling people to become involved with and support the purposes and work of Action of Churches Together in Scotland
  • to encourage ecumenical formation locally, nationally, and globally.

Friends are invited to express their support, as they are able, through

  • prayer and encouragement
  • meeting together
  • financial donations.

Friends' support is focussed on

  • the Programme of Scottish Churches House
  • the on-going improvement of facilities provided at Scottish Churches House
  • the life and work of ACTS.

Friends' activities are coordinated by a Committee, elected at the Annual General Meeting.

Friends' events, open to all, may be organised, e.g. Open Meetings in Edinburgh in May, conferences in Dunblane, weekly lunchtime gatherings in Edinburgh. There is a regular Friends' mailing.

Membership of Friends is open to anyone who supports Scottish Churches House and is in sympathy with the Basis of Commitment and Aims of ACTS:

Member Churches of ACTS are committed

  • 'to seek a deepening of their communion with Christ and with one another in the Church, which is his body;
  • 'to fulfil their mission to proclaim the Gospel by common witness and service to the world, to the glory of the One God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.'
